Arthritis Needs a Movember

November 18 2014 4:18 AM ET via RheumReports RheumReports

I was in a taxi cab and ads for Movember were everywhere. My own husband looks like the character from Orange County Choppers with his new facial hair growth.

Arthritis needs its own Movember to increase awareness of the many subtypes of rheumatic diseases. Many patient-related advocacy groups and national rheumatology organizations have worked hard with different types of arthritis awareness months – but I think we have yet to find the perfect symbol that captures the cause. I think we can get there – and encourage all allied health and medical professionals within rheumatology to continue the journey towards finding that media darling or gimic which will ultimately promote the many areas of need within rheumatology.
