Something Fun and Active to do in Rome

June 10 2015 1:58 PM ET via RheumReports RheumReports

My wife and I arrived in Rome a few days before EULAR to prepare for this edition of RheumReports and to take in some of the sites.

One of the highlights of our first few days was a 4-hour guided bike tour of Rome. We booked this tour through Viator.com but you can go directly to the bike tour guides at www.topbikerental.com.

We started our tour on Sunday evening at 5 pm. A perfect time because the weather was cooler and the traffic was calm (if you can ever call it calm in Rome). We set off at a leisurely pace and the tour was not overly strenuous with a few hills and frequent stops.

We began our tour down the street from the Coliseum and stopped at a number of historic sites including a view of the Coliseum, Circus Maximus, the Roman Forum, Aventine Hill and the keyhole, and the Pantheon. Our guide was very informative and knowledgeable about the history of Rome and the historical sites. We also got a sense of the layout of the city visiting many locales such as Navona Square, Campo de' Fiori, Trastevere, and the Jewish Ghetto. The best thing is that we all ate gelato in Navona Square!

A bike tour is a unique way to experience the historic sites of the ancient city of Rome while providing a good overview of the layout of the city. We would highly recommend this adventure!

Godere in bicicletta,

Arrivederci
