Musings from a Canadian rheumatologist in Rome

June 11 2015 4:00 AM ET via RheumReports RheumReports

I think Rome is the most amazing city I have ever visited. The history, the architecture, Vatican City, the wine, the fashion, the people, the gelato, the pasta!!!

Here are a few amazing things about Rome that were unexpected:

1. Russell Crowe look-alikes in Gladiator outfits on every corner waiting to be photographed with you
2. An unbelievable demand for selfie sticks, sold on every corner
3. Shoes prices: we are hardworking doctors, we can afford Italian-made designer leather shoes, right? Not!!
4. The food: I have eaten pasta every night since I arrived and I look forward to eating pasta every night until I leave
5. The traffic: I have not yet been hit by a car or scooter
6. EULAR: So the commute to the congress centre is a bit long, it's true. But I still came back to my hotel today with a smile on my face and I am happily heading back there tomorrow. So if you have avoided Roma because of that, I say don't worry, there's always next time.

Prego!
