I 'PROMIS' to get a 'RISE' out of you! Buzz Words From the ACR

All over the ACR this year there are adds to join the RISE registry. The ACR is now in the business of collecting real-world patient data and I applaud them for it. You can potentially benchmark your practice compared to others and learn about what you are doing and add to the ability to answer real-world questions. The website is:

PROMIS is a Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System that can evaluate physical, mental and social health in both adults and children. It is like the new SF-36 and is available for free. PROMIS allows a comparison between diseases and study changes over time. PROMIS was used in more than 18 abstracts at the ACR including in populations of patients with RA, OA, vasculitis, SLE, scleroderma, and JIA. It was used to compare patients in a large SLE cohort (P Katz, Abstract #445), to compare the minimally important differences in knee OA (A Lee, Abstract #299), to draw correlations with function in early RA (T Uhlig, Abstract #94), and in a validation study in scleroderma-associated interstitial lung disease (R Namas, Abstract #2912).

So I promise you, this outcome is here to stay and will likely be used in RCTs.
