Boston is a world-famous city that is renowned for its academic institutions, sports teams and events, and historical importance as America's "Cradle of Liberty." But there's a lot more to Boston than Harvard and MIT, the Boston Marathon, and the pilgrims!

For instance, did you know that Boston was America's largest, wealthiest, and most influential city from the time it was founded in the 1630s until the 1760s? Here are some other fun facts about Boston, the capital of Massachusetts. The state bird is the Chickadee, the state tree is the American Elm, and not surprisingly, the state dog is the Boston Terrier and the state flower is the Mayflower.

While the annual ACR meeting might be what drew you to Boston this week, there are many other attractions the city has to offer. If you're a history buff, take a stroll along the Freedom Trail, a 2.5-mile stretch that offers 16 sites that were important during the American Revolution. If you're a foodie or a shopaholic, head to Boston's South End for some of the city's best restaurants, shopping and galleries. If you're interested in architecture, Back Bay offers some of the best examples of the city's Victorian brownstones. And for sports fans, Fenway Park is open to visitors year round and offers guided tours of America's oldest ball park that is still in active use.

And don't forget to catch the latest updates from the ACR meeting on RheumReports.com. Our RheumReporters will be blogging about the latest in rheumatology research every day starting November 16th!
