How to speak ‘Bahston English’

November 16 2014 11:12 AM ET via RheumReports RheumReports

Bostonians have their own unique way of pronouncing words. Everyone knows about the poor lost New England 'R's and how after the A's, the R's just seem to go away. Author Adam Gaffin lists his favorite Boston vocabulary on his blog 'The Wicked Good Guide to Boston English'. Here are some of our favorites:

Cah  - Green Line train: "Take the next cah to Nawth Station; get off at Haymahket."

Dressa draw -   Piece of bedroom furniture used for storing clothes.

Foddy -  The numbah aftah thirdy-nine.

Pahluh -  Living room.

Saddadee -  The day after Friday.

Soft -  Crazy, bold, daring: "You're soft for questioning the professah."

Whole 'notha - A complete replacement; "I got a whole 'notha computa on my desk now."

No SUH! - "Really?!?" or "What did you say?!?" Often answered with " Ya huh!"
