It’s winter – we’re from Canada – we love hockey – time to learn about our ACR host city team, the Boston Bruins!!
The Bruins got their start in 1926 and are part of the ‘Original Six’ franchise along with Chicago, Detroit, Montreal, New York and Toronto. They play in the NHL’s Eastern Conference/Pacific Division and have won six Stanley Cups, the last in the 2010/11 season.
The Boston Bruins' home arena is the 17,565 capacity TD Garden where they moved to in 1995, after leaving the Boston Garden which had been their home since 1928.
They will be playing two home games while the ACR 2014 meeting is underway. Saturday, November 15th against the Carolina Hurricanes and Tuesday, November 18th against the St. Louis Blues.
The Bruins boast many well-known retired Canadian-born players including Ray Bourque, Mark Recchi, Cam Neely, Phil Esposito and of course Bobby Orr. In 1970, Orr won the Conn Smythe, Hart Memorial, James Norris and Art Ross trophies in the same year, the only player to do so in NHL history.
Currently 14 (54%) of the current 26 player roster hail from Canada. Well, I think that explains a thing or two!!
