A study from the Mayo Clinic has demonstrated that the Framingham Risk Score significantly underestimates the risk of cardiovascular events in PsA, particularly in patients over age 40 (oral abstract 1852, presented by Katelynn Wilton)
The standardized incidence ratio(SIR) for predicted vs. actual cardiac events was 1.80 (95% CI 1.14, 2.86). Predicted risk vs. actual risk were similar until age 40, but thereafter, the predicted risk significantly underestimated actual cardiovascular risk. The 10-year cumulative risk of CV events was 17%.
Overall, the Framingham Risk Score underestimated the risk of CV events in PsA patients by about a factor of 2. This is similar to the findings for elevated CV risk in RA patients.
