Dr. Janet Pope

Janet Pope, MD, is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Rheumatology and also Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Western University. She is the Division Head in Rheumatology at St. Joseph's Health Centre in London, Ontario.

Dr. Pope obtained her medical degree and Fellowship in Internal Medicine at Western University and completed a Fellowship in Rheumatology and a Masters of Public Health in Epidemiology at Boston University. She received the Distinguished Investigator Award from the Canadian Rheumatology Association in 2013 and the Rheumatologist of the Year from the Ontario Rheumatology Association.

Dr. Pope's research interests include epidemiologic studies in scleroderma, classification criteria in systemic sclerosis, systemic lupus erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis. She is a founding member of the Canadian Scleroderma Research Group, Scientific Advisor for the Canadian Arthritis Cohort, Vice President of the Canadian Network for Improved Outcomes in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, is on the executive of the Canadian Rheumatology Research Consortium, and is a member of the Scleroderma Clinical Trials Consortium and the Scientific Advisory Committee for the Ontario Best Practices Research Initiative. Dr. Pope has published over 300 peer-reviewed articles, 15 chapters, several Cochrane meta-analyses and reviews, and she sits on editorial boards including Arthritis Care & Research.

In addition, Dr. Pope is actively involved in mentorship programs including Future Leaders in Rheumatology and Future Leaders of Western. She is also Chair of two industry-sponsored studentships.
