Dr. Shahin Jamal

Shahin Jamal, MD is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of British Columbia. She is an active staff physician in the Department of Medicine, Division of Rheumatology at Vancouver Coastal Health, and site coordinator for the residency training in rheumatology at Vancouver General Hospital.

Dr. Jamal obtained her Doctor of Medicine from the University of British Columbia, then completed her Internal Medicine training at Queens University and Rheumatology training at the University of Toronto, where she also obtained a Masters Degree in Clinical Epidemiology.

Dr. Jamal’s interests include diagnosis and prognosis of early inflammatory arthritis, and timely assessment and access to care for patients with rheumatoid arthritis. She was awarded a Canadian Arthritis Society Clinical Fellowship from 2002 to 2004, a Canadian Arthritis Network Post Doctoral Fellowship Award from 2005 to 2007, and a Canadian Society Research Fellowship from 2005 to 2008. In 2013, Dr. Jamal received the Arthritis Society Clinical Teacher/Educator Award.

In addition to her clinical, research and academic roles, Dr. Jamal was involved in the early development and implementation of the Canadian Early Arthritis Cohort (CATCH), she is the Director of the Diamond Center Early Arthritis Program, and she is Chair of the Guidelines Committee of the Canadian Rheumatology Association.
